Mil Spouse Friday Fill-In and 5 Question Friday-July 2, 2010 Edition

So it's that time again! Time for the Friday Fill-in. This week I've decided to jump on with 5 Question Friday as well. I hope it's okay to put them in the same post.

Let's start with the Mil Spouse Friday Fill-In hosted by Wife of a Sailor.

This week’s questions are:

1.Tell us about your dream job… one that you could do regardless of pay.
This one is actually pretty tough for me to answer seeing as how I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up. I know, I know...I'm 30! Shouldn't I know already? Yup. I should. But I don't. I feel as though I should do something creative. I don't think I was meant to do something behind a desk. Once upon a time I wanted to be a therapist. I've changed my mind. My current thought is to be an English Literature Professor. But we'll see. We have to sit still long enough for me to go to school somewhere before I figure out anything. Yes, I have a B.S. in Psychology...but that's not what I want anymore. There are too many options and too many things I'm interested in!

2. What is your most prized material possession (kids and pets don’t count!)?
I would probably say that this is my quote journal. I have a really pretty journal that I bought specifically in which to write quotes, song lyrics, statements, anything that touches me...I write in that book. Those are the things that stand out to me and speak to me. It means so much to me and I would be devastated if I lost it.

3. What has been your favorite duty station and why?
Though I didn't really care for Ft. Drum I really enjoyed living in NY. The first four years we lived there we didn't live near the base. We lived down in Syracuse. It was our first duty station and that's where The Hubble and I really grew into adults and a married couple. I have nothing but fond memories of Syracuse. Well, unless you count the blizzards, The Hubble's hour and a half commute (each way), and the fact that we lost a car to the combination of a blizzard, the commute, and just for fun we threw in a semi trailer truck. Good times, good times...

4. What is your least favorite household chore?
This one is a toss up between toilets and floors. Ya know...I can handle toilets. You spray in some stuff and use a brush with a handle. But the floors. There's the sweeping (or in my case getting out my huge ass vacuum and attaching the tile sweeper attachment) then there's the mopping part. That include a mop, a bucket and a chemical, and back strength. It's a lot of work and I'm just not into that...

5. If you could give one piece of advice to a teenager today (not specifically a MilTeen), what would it be?
Close your legs! It's not worth it. Or if you are going to do stuff, please be smart about it. That baby that comes in 9 months is not going to care for you. You have to care for it! And if you don't want to...do the baby a favor and give it to a loving family who will care and love for it. That baby is not here to solve your problems! And God knows there are enough deserving people out there who can't have babies that your snivelly ass doesn't need to abuse and neglect and do a crap job raising this one because you are too selfish! (hee hee...sorry...I have some strong feelings about this...I don't know if you could tell)

Well that's it for the Mil Spouse Friday Fill-In. If you want to join in the fun, head over to Wife of a Sailor and join in!!

Now for the 5 Question Friday which is hosted by My Little Life. I've never done this one but I know of a few people who do so I thought I would try it out. So here goes...

1. What is one thing you miss most about your childhood?
I miss the summers at my grandma's house. We would go there every summer. It was filled with fun, laughter, great food, and just awesome memories. Pretty much all my happy childhood memories are there...in Lawton, Oklahoma. I miss her so much...

2. Are you still friends with your friends from high school?
No. Well, kind of. I'm friends with one high school friend. We moved around so much that we ended up moving my senior year of high school. I tend to be a bad friend and lose touch with people. But I also figure that I'm not a very memorable person so I assume they don't remember me anyway. But I am friends with one girl (a fellow Army Brat) that I met my junior year.

3. Is there a catch phrase, cliche, or word that just drives you bonkers every time you  hear it?
The Hubble has a tendency to start saying either sayings or words and he WAY over uses them so I end up getting pretty fed up with them. Once upon a time it was "it is what it is." And now, after coming home from Afghanistan, it's the word "kablah." Oh! And "inch'allah" which means "if God wills it."  It's not that they are bad, it's just that he uses them for EVERYTHING!!!! He'll be telling me something and instead of finishing what he's saying he'll throw his hands about and say "kablah, kablah." Then the "inch'allah" is pretty much his answer for every issue now. We'll be talking about something important and if he's tired of talking about it..."inch'allah." It annoys me to NO END.

4. What is one thing that you think symbolizes America...besides Old Glory?
Expansive fields of green. The beautiful countryside. When I was a kid (and truth be told, even now) we made so many road trips, and I was one of the unfortunate kids plagued with motion sickness, I would just watch the scenery roll by. The fact that we can drive such distances and no matter what time of year you leave, you will see all types of weather throughout the country. I love it.

5. What are your 4th of July weekend plans?
We are actually planning a get together here at our house. We are going to grill some beer brats, some hot dogs, and some hamburgers. We are going to have some new friends over that we've met in the last 2 months of living here. And some of The Hubble's guys from our last duty station are here too so hopefully they will stop by. Sparkler's in the front yard for the kiddos. Maybe a fireworks show if we aren't too...ummm...full?? But you know I mean wasted there. LOL!

So there ya have it folks. Those are my 5 (well, 10) questions. I'm really liking these things so I hope I can keep doing them. Don't forget to head over to My Little Life and Wife of a Sailor...answer your questions and link up with their blogs! I can't wait to read how you all have answered!

Well I Could Have Been an Actor

But I wound up here.

Today, let's talk about laundry. Yeah, you read me right...laundry. But as the lyric implies...we are not going to talk about Dirty Laundry. We're going to talk about clean laundry. The act of doing laundry. Why, you ask, has this girl gone crazy?? Why in the world would she want to talk about laundry? I'll tell you why. It's because laundry is a sore point in my life. Laundry has been the cause of many fights and disagreements between The Hubble and myself.

Here we have Exhibit A:

Please meet Bill and Peggy. Bill is my dryer (pictured on the left) and Peggy is my washer (pictured on the right). We purchased this beautiful washer/dryer set a little over a year ago, right before The Hubble deployed to Afghanistan. I fell completely in love with this pair. But upon learning of the somewhat hefty price tag these two boasted, The Hubble was not impressed. We fought for days over my need to have a "luxury" washer/dryer set and his need to have "only the necessities." I am not exaggerating when I say that this couple, my Peggy and my Bill, almost brought The Hubble and I to divorce. Seriously. But guess who won? ;-)

Now, everything was going fine in our lives. Peggy, Bill and I had a great relationship together. We leaned on each other quite a lot in the last year together. We've learned to coexist. Fortunately, Peggy and Bill were no longer an "issue" for The Hubble since he was in Afghanistan and wasn't thinking about them. Then silly me brought them up in an email and The Hubble got a little heated again. Oops. Learned my lesson.

Well, now The Hubble is home and he's learning to love Peggy and Bill. He asked me to show him how to use them the right way. I think he is finally okay with them being a permanent part of our lives. Okay. No problem now right? Wrong.

See...the other day The Hubble and I were folding laundry together (please excuse my very bare walls. we just bought new bedroom furniture and bedding and need to figure out how we are going to decorate the room)...

Now I know what some of you girls are probably thinking...hello! He does laundry! What's the problem?!?!?!

The problem is the method! We have completely different methods when it comes to folding laundry and when trying to do about 5,000 loads together, things started to get a little...interesting.

Let me explain the methods to you. Enter in Exhibit B:

The Wiffle's method: To take items from the "community pile," fold them and separate them into piles according to what goes where. If I'm standing by a drawer and something belongs in said drawer, I will turn around and put it away right then. I know we only have a few kitchen towels so whenever I ran across a towel I would fold it and walk around the corner to put it away. After everything is folded and laid out (hanger items) I will then take each neatly folded or laid out pile and put them away in their designated home. Capeesh? Okay. I'm glad you are still with me.

Now, enter in Exhibit C:

The Hubble's method: he likes to separate things into piles (just as I do) but he doesn't fold them right away. He throws things haphazardly into different piles according to person and room in which they belong.

I will also take a moment now to tell you that as he's throwing his messy items onto my neatly folded piles and I'm having to try to keep everything straight while he's ripping through the laundry like a madman!

After he separates everything out according to room, he goes back and lays everything out neatly, then he folds it all, then he puts it away.

Here are the arguments:

The Wiffle: I believe he is doing double, sometimes triple the work because he's touching everything at least twice. He throws everything into piles (touching once), goes back and folds everything (second time in hand), then once everything is folded he puts it away; three times in the hand. And that doesn't count when he lays out the t-shirts before folding them.

The Hubble: He believes I am not using my time and energy efficiently and that I'm unnecessarily expending said time and energy. When I turn around and put something in a drawer each time I run across drawer contents, I'm wasting time. By taking kitchen towels around the corner and putting them away one, sometimes two, at a time, I'm wasting energy. Whereas he stands in one place the whole time.

So who is right? Would you care to weigh in here? Do you have an alternate method that may quell this predicament? Maybe we shouldn't do laundry together?

Well there you have it. Thanks for talking about all this laundry with me. At least it was clean!

A Day Late and a Blog Short

You know...when you miss a day of computer time, all the blogs you follow tend to get into the millions as far as posts. Since I got busy yesterday I missed a day and had about 5 million blogs to get through. Ugh. I knew I was in for the long haul, so what did I do??

I grabbed a cup of coffee (or four) and hunkered down in front of my computer to catch up. I will say that I probably didn't get a chance to read them all because there were just too many! Yikes!! That will teach me not to miss a day.

So why did I miss yesterday? Well, I had a friend over for coffee and cake and we just did a bunch of talking. Her son, Z-Man, and Little Butt had a ton of fun playing together. They were pretty much crazy and insane all morning. At a certain point they went quiet so I had to go check on them...

They were quietly hiding under the bed...

and when Z-Man left...

Little Butt got out too.

They are pretty much the funniest craziest kids. It was a lot of fun.

They stayed until it was time to get home and get Z-Man down for a nap. While they were here, I received a box from UPS. It turned out to be a box full of books from my mom!

The Hubble was gone all evening preparing for a brief he had to give this morning so while Little Butt played in her room, I started the first book in the series my mom sent me. A couple hours and 100 pages later, I decided to finally call it a night and go to sleep. It was well after midnight and Little Butt had been sleeping since 9pm.

Of course, that meant I did NOT want to get up this morning...and that brings us back to the coffee that was much needed this morning.

At least we had fun yesterday. And we are making plans for the weekend! There's nothing like finding new friends to make the days pass by a little quicker. Whether those friends are in the flesh or the ones you discover through the imagination...they are amazing to meet!

Have you met any new friends lately? Were they real, found in bloggyville or found through literature?

Oh! I almost forgot! One of my newest bloggyville friends has charged me with the duty of answering a questionnaire for her.

A Modern Military Mother asked:

1. Are you a meticulous planner?
No, not particularly. I've found that there's just no way to plan for things. I've tried in the past but at this point I think I've given up. And I can never really make up my mind enough to plan for anything! But sometimes I do try...

2. Do you wear makeup & if so how much & how often?
I actually have a crazy obsession with makeup. I love to apply it and buy it and wear it. I have to be in the mood though. I always wear a bit of makeup if I'm going out of the house or having someone over. My makeup is so expensive though that if I'm just staying home with family I won't wear any at all. I do enjoy the days when I'm in the mood and can go a bit crazy with it. I love color! And glitter! And shimmer! I do love makeup...

3. What, if anything, do you wear to bed?
For a while I was wearing an extra large men's undershirt and extra large men's pajama pants. I was pretty much swallowed in these bedtime clothes. I decided I would get something a bit nicer since I lost like 60 pounds. I still wear men's stuff to bed because they are just more comfortable. My favorite pajama pants are the men's pajama pants from Old Navy. My current favorite ones are dark blue with pin up girls on them. I wear those with a small men's wife beater. I love my comfy jammies!

4. Look over your right shoulder, what do you see?
This canvas painting by Brent Lynch. We have him hanging next to her but she's directly behind me.

5. If you had to take a random item to an interview to help describe you, what would it be?
I would probably have to take a book that is kind of worn and beaten. The book would have to be about many things. Kind of like a random thoughts or information book. I am pretty random and have an eclectic array of interests.

6. What film would you have liked a starring role in?
Annie. At a certain point in my life I wanted to be Annie. I wouldn't answer to anyone if they didn't call me Annie. I would walk around singing all the songs. I pretty much still know them...

7. Jimmy Stewart of Cary Grant?
Gene Kelly.

8. Do you swear in front of your children?
Ummm...yes. Haha! I know I shouldn't but I have a mouth like a sailor! The Hubble says I even make him blush sometimes!! I think that if we are too "oh you shouldn't cuss" then it makes the children feel like it's a fun rebellious thing to do and they will do it more. If it's part of everyday conversation it doesn't seem like such a big deal. And I'm not one of those people who care if I get dirty looks because my daughter said she was going to be a "little bitch" for Halloween or when she says "goddammit" or repeats when I say "wake the F*** up Daddy!"

9. Do you knit of sew or do any other 'womanly' craft?
Well, we all know I love to cook and bake!! LOL! I also dabble in other things. I taught myself to knit. I've done scrapbooking. I know how to cross stitch. But I just enjoy crafty things. I also draw, and read. I just have a ton of interests and sometimes I go through phases and try to learn as much as possible!

10. Twitter or Facebook?
I do both but mainly I update Twitter. I can update and respond through text messaging on my phone. I can FB through my phone too, but all those game and app updates ruin FB for me. It makes me angry and slightly violent.

Now you should absolutely head over to A Modern Military Mother's answers to these questions because they are hilarious! She's one rad lady!

Okay! That's it!!! I'm sorry to have made this so long! I can't choose just a few people to answer these questions because I really want to hear (or read) all of your answers. So if you want to be nice to me, take these questions and answer them!!! Thanks! And if you actually got to the end of this crazy random and insanely long post, will you be my best friend??? Because you are awesome!
